Featured Volunteer Opportunities:
Get involved and help us increase the number of houses we rehabilitate in partnership each year! We are currently seeking volunteers to assist with our soon to open ReStore. Read Dale's story below as she shares her volunteer experience at the ReStore. Then, for more information about how YOU can get involved with the ReStore, click here. "Working for the ReStore has been a fun and exciting way to be involved with Chesapeake Habitat! The staff is incredibly appreciative for all the help they receive; they work hard and maintain an incredible sense of humor. I've helped as a Donation Pickup Assistant, and it has been the most fun of all my volunteer experiences by far. I loved riding in the Habitat box truck, playing navigator as we follow directions all over the city and helping to load donations. The driver, Mike is very friendly and courteous. A day at work is never boring as you meet the generous donors of Baltimore. The work is never too strenuous with pushcarts and the truck’s own elevator lift. We all get good exercise and wonderful fresh air which benefits everyone, no matter your fitness level! The ReStore sells donated items for Chesapeake Habitat's overall mission, so you will feel rewarded as you see how your donation of time directly benefits the organization and the community. Working as a Donation Pickup Assistant is an exciting way to volunteer, have fun and feel great at the end of the day!"
-Dale Marie Prenatt, 28 years old, Baltimore City
Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity is proud to work with our neighbors to rehabilitate simple, decent, affordable houses--something that could not be done without the service of our many willing volunteers. We welcome people from all walks of life and invite individual and group volunteers from every faith, denomination, race and economic status to join us in our mission to end substandard housing in Baltimore.
Non-Construction Opportunities:
While the most popular volunteer request involves helping on the construction site, CHFH has equally vital volunteer opportunities outside of construction. Volunteers are asked to contribute their time and talents helping in the office and in our warehouse, serving on committees, preparing lunches, helping to staff tables at volunteer fairs and events, and performing outreach in the community to help raise money and awareness.
We particularly need support on the Habitat Harvest Event Planning Committee, the Family Services Committee, and the Advocacy Committee. To learn more about all Committee opportunities, follow the link on the left of this page under "Volunteer".
Construction Volunteer Opportunities for INDIVIDUALS:

Weekday Team Volunteer:
Spend one day a week as part of a team helping to make the dream of affordable homeownership a reality. You can help rehabilitate affordable housing in Baltimore City, meet interesting, service oriented people and learn new skills (or use the skills you already have) by joining a weekday volunteer team at Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity. Under the supervision of construction managers, weekday team members work Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays on Chesapeake Habitat houses, enjoying fellowship and learning new skills together.
Skilled Construction Volunteer:
Use your general carpentry skills to help Chesapeake Habitat rehabilitate simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with qualified and deserving families in Baltimore City. Are you comfortable working with minimal supervision, able to read plans and willing to see basic carpentry projects from start to finish in a timely manner? After attending the Chesapeake Habitat Volunteer Orientation, no upfront commitment is necessary, you simply agree to be on an “on call list” to receive notification when project based help is needed. You can then decide whether your schedule and skill level allow you to undertake the particular project. Chesapeake Habitat will provide the plans and materials.
Licensed Volunteer Subcontractor:
Use your professional skill to help create affordable homeownership opportunities and strengthen Baltimore neighborhoods. Do what you do best (drywall finishing, plumbing, electrical, roofing, masonry or foundation work) while giving back to the community. Licensed subcontractors willing to donate professional labor on Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity projects can help us rehabilitate houses with partner families affordably and efficiently--all in a few days work! Must possess license and insurance.
