Baltimore Schools for Baltimore (BSB) Baltimore Schools for Baltimore is a student-led coalition supporting Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity’s mission of providing homeownership opportunities in partnership with low-income families.  We combine the strengths, talents, and resources of our school communities by jointly participating in construction projects, advocating for housing issues, and creatively raising money to reach our goal of decent and affordable housing for all in Baltimore.

Baltimore Schools for Baltimore is a part of Habitat International's "Youth United " Program.

Members of BSB include:
Schools clubs
Habitat homeowner youth
Faith-based youth groups
Individual students

BSB Highlights
Able and Andy are carpenters and friends.  Able (21) and Andy (19) are college students attending Middlebury College in Maine and Wesleyan University in Connecticut.  This summer, the dynamic duo work in our warehouse building wooden tables and workbenches that will be sold in our Restore and as auction items at our fundraising events. Both are graduates of the Park School.

Our Bank of America Interns  are Rochelle (18), Leon (18), Shanelle (17), Hawa (16), and Uchechi (16).  BOA interns work in different departments within our organization: Family Services, Youth and Faith programs, Restore, Development and in our warehouse.  Interns are immersed in all facets of our organization; they occasionally build on the work sites; they attend each of our staff and resource development meetings.  To learn more about The Student Leaders Program click here.

Youth@HODA are children and young friends of Chesapeake Habitat homeowners.  HODA stands for Homeowners Development Association.  HODA, an affiliate of CHFH, is independently operated and funded by our homeowners.  HODA members host community cookouts, school supply drives, field trips and holiday parties.  HODA welcomes new Habitat homeowners and their children to share in the glory of homeowernship.

The Park School Habitat club is our premier sponsorship partner.   The group has committed to complete ten houses by 2010. Park completed their seventh house in the spring of 2007.  Upper schools students fill valuable leadership roles, educating younger students and members of the greater school community about issues surrounding poverty housing through fundraising and advocacy efforts.  Park Schools students inspired BSBC.  http://www.baltimoreschoolsforbaltimore.org

Woodbrook Baptist Church: Vacation Bible School (VBS) exemplify the potential of the very young in service.  As part of the Under Construction: VBS curriculum, the group of over 60 children, preschool through 5th grade, learned lessons of caring, sharing, growing, worshiping and celebrating through the mission of Habitat for Humanity.  The children and their leaders wonderfully integrated the ministry of Habitat with the ministry of Woodbrook.  The children constructed care boxes for homeowner families containing personalized handcrafted and useful keepsakes (bookends, toolboxes, key holders, scrapbooks…) Get your congregation involved.  Visit  http://www.habitat.org/cr/resources.aspx to learn more about VBS.
