Women Build
The Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity Women Build project brings together a network of individual women and women's organizations to renovate a house for a family in need in Baltimore City. The goal of this project is to emphasize the large number of women who already volunteer with Chesapeake Habitat and give them the chance to take the lead on the construction site. In this project, every nail is hammered by a woman! Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the country have sponsored similar all-women projects. Chesapeake Habitat completed its first Women Build home in 1999. This will be our 6th Women Build project.
This year’s Women Build house is located in Butcher’s Hill at 9 North Washington Street. It will be the largest house ever rehabilitated by Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity. The size of the house will give us the ability to have more volunteers onsite each day and provide a home for one of the larger families that have partnered with Chesapeake Habitat.
Through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity International, Chesapeake Habitat has received a $40,000 donation from Lowes. We are currently in the process of raising the additional $60,000 needed to complete the house. Construction on 9 North Washington is scheduled to begin in October 2007 through February 2008.
