Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity values our faith partners.  For twelve years, we have worked with United Churches, a strong coalition of Christian churches of various denominations, to build a home each year (this year expanding to two homes).  This year (2007) we expanded our faith efforts to include a first ever Interfaith Build.  This grew out of involvement by Jewish partners who wanted to work more in conjunction with people of other faiths.  The Interfaith Build gave us the opportunity to invite our Muslim brothers and sisters to join us in the work of transforming Baltimore neighborhoods.

As our faith partners grow in numbers, we are also expanding the ways congregations and people of all faiths can be involved.  In addition to United Churches and the Interfaith Build, we offer opportunities to help support the building of homes, materials for Religious Education and Vacation Bible School, and more.  We are working on a special manual for involving children in Habitat’s work. Building on Faith Celebration

Each year in the fall, we focus on partnerships with communities of faith to do more than we ever dreamed possible. Habitat for Humanity International celebrates its partnership with the faith community by encouraging affiliates to plan bold building projects with local faith communities.

In addition to building houses, many affiliates plan communitywide worship services and musical celebrations to offer praise and thanksgiving for God's blessings on Habitat's ministry.

This year, Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity is planning a special Building on Faith Event on the 27th and 28th of October.  We will work in several locations on Saturday and then work in the morning on Sunday and end with a reception and tours on Sunday afternoon.  To get all the information, click here.  To view pictures from the weekend event, click here.

Though Habitat for Humanity builds on faith every day, a specific Building on Faith event has become a way for affiliates to get congregations excited and involved in Habitat's work. Over and over, affiliates have told us that Building on Faith was a turning point or the boost they needed to stir the faith community into action.
