House Sponsorship

Community Sponsorship Fund
building homes, building communities, changing lives

The Community Sponsorship Fund supports direct construction costs of up to 20 Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity homes each year.  Contributing to the fund offers unique, tangible, and meaningful opportunities for businesses, congregations, and other organizations to give back to their community through funding and building homes.  Because Chesapeake Habitat builds homes in clusters within existing neighborhoods, contributors to the Fund are also a part of bringing about transformational change for entire communities – and making a difference in families’ lives for generations.

An average house costs $125,000 to acquire, gut and rehabilitate (and about the same amount to build from the ground up).  We need to raise approximately $2.5 million for construction costs alone in our next building year, which begins July 1, 2008.  We need your help!  Please consider whether your business, congregation, or organization can help support these critical construction expenses so that we can make the dream of homeownership come true for families in need of stable, affordable housing.

Sponsorship levels range from $15,000 to $100,000+.  Benefits depend on the level of support, but may include:

• Inclusion in Baltimore Business Journal thank-you ads
• Prominent logo exposure on house signage and/or throughout the community
• Flexible volunteer opportunities for team members and/or employees
• Recognition at House Dedication ceremonies

Time spent together as an organization working toward the common goal of creating a home for a family in need is rewarding on many levels. Sponsors that have participated with us have found that working on a Habitat project boosts morale, encourages resourcefulness, and most of all, provides the satisfaction of meeting a real need in a tangible way.

Community Investment Tax Credit Program
Minimize tax payments, maximize dollar impact!

Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity has been approved by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development to distribute a limited amount of tax credits to donors through the Community Investment Tax Credit Program (CITC).   Tax credits are available on a first come, first served basis while they are available.

CITC Basics:

- Any Maryland business can participate, including: sole proprietorships, corporations, and pass-through entities (partnerships, subchapter S corporations, and limited liability companies.)
- Minimum donation: $500.
- Donations must be cash or goods. Services an real estate are not eligible.
- Tax credits worth 50% of the donation can be applied against the business' Maryland state tax liability. If the business has no tax liability in the year that the donation is made, credits can be carried over for up to five years in the future.
- Donated amount qualifies as a charitable contribution and is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
- Net cost to the donor is approximately 27% of the contribution after credit and deduction. This percentage depends on the business' tax rate, and may be slightly lower or higher.
To receive credits, businesses only need to write a check and fill out one simple form.

For more information on how to utilize tax credits through the Community Investment Tax Credit Program, please call Marisa at 410-366-1250 or email marisa@chesapeakehfh.org or visit The Department of Housing and Community Development.
